34 years is a long time. This time, roughly 34 years ago, The San Fernando Tigers completed a rally from three games to none deficit in the world series to stun the Ohio Outlaws in the 1990 World Series, a title Tim Cruise, then GM of the Outlaws, claims is tainted.
34 years ago, the league was still in its infancy. The league office was sophomore in high school. A lot has changed in those 34 years. What hasn't is the Tigers who struggled mightily after that 1990 Championship.
When Bobby Witt Jr. caught Luis Roberts' pop fly to end the game, the Tigers ended a 34-year drought and are finally California League Champions again.
Tiger GM Tom Bruszak, who named the team after the high school baseball team coached by Gene Vangelisti dedicated the win to Gene's memory. Gene was more than the dad of one of the league offices good friends, he was also a mentor and friend and someone who was always willing to talk shop (baseball).
Miss you Gene. Your team is finally on top again.

The Oultaws wound up scoring three times in the sixth, but the Tigers answered right back with two runs in the seventh. The game remained tied until Julio Rodriguez ended the game with a walk-off solo homer in the bottom of the 12'th to send the series back to Southern California.
The World Series will resume on Thursday with the Tigers needing just one win at home to capture their first championship in 34 years

Last year, Austin Riley had arguably the best World Series performance in league history to lift Ohio to a title. This year, Luis Robert may have topped that in the first round. On Friday, Robert went 5-5 and drove in 9 as the Outlaws cruised past Kansas City 13-2 to punch a ticket to the 2024 World Series. Robert finished the first round with 6 doubles, 3 homers, 11 RBI and a .519 average.
The 2024 World Series will be a rematch of the 1990 World Series which saw Tigers stun Ohio in seven games in a series that remains controversial to this day. The 1990 title is the only in Tiger history as they hope to add another. For Ohio, they are looking for a repeat performance from their 2023 Championship season.
